Digital shadows or digital twins is important to step towards Industry 4.0. Using this technology, Artificial Intelligence can enable the management to simulate and analyse the complicated production systems virtually in advance to define more optimized design and production schedule. This will also facilitate Hong Kong manufacturers to manage the large-scale manufacturing outside Hong Kong remotely.
Research Focus
The projects in this program will focus on establishing and utilizing digital shadows of factories in different industries relevant to Hong Kong. These digital shadows will be used to research and develop ways to optimize different aspects of distributed factories (i.e., one or possibly multiple factories apart from central functions of the company) from one location.
Research will also focus on how to use AI methods to reduce ramp-up times of factories and product launches using the established digital shadows.
