(1 April, 2021) Internationally-renowned manufacturing engineering expert Professor Du Ruxu visited FLAIR today to discuss the latest trend in AI research and development (R&D) with the centre researchers. He was also appointed a Commercialisation Committee Member of FLAIR.
A Fellow in various overseas engineering bodies such as the Canadian Academy of Engineering, American Society of Mechanical Engineers and Society of Manufacturing Engineering, Professor Du took the lead in inventing new technologies in precision engineering and their applications in various areas, such as biomedical sciences, optics, energy and the environment; and developed many innovative manufacturing robotic devices to monitor and diagnose manufacturing processes.
In the sharing session, after Dr Ge Ming, Chief Operating Officer of FLAIR, has introduced FLAIR’s current research projects and future research directions, Professor Du gave researchers at FLAIR his insights on future prospect of AI and robotics applications and offered them advice in overcoming the research barriers they were facing in projects with possible solutions.
According to Professor Du, the development of advanced mechanical technologies for industrial automation is an irreversible trend. At the same time, the market needs to take into consideration the cost of applying such technologies. Against this background, Professor Du believes that talent training is integral in any R&D activities as adequate high-tech professionals provide the basis to ensure the success of commercialisation of various technology development projects. Secondly, he expects FLAIR to grasp the great market opportunities in the Greater Bay Area for their projects.
